Ever since I started watching The Hills, I have been a fan of Kelly Cutrone. I really like her no-bullshit kind of attitude and I think she is someone you can really learn stuff from. Here's some words she once sent to Whitney, and I think it's a great list to live by:

ONE: Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.
TWO: Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.
THREE: Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

A Day in Belgium

Yesterday me and my bf went to Gent, a beautiful city in Belgium. The weather was quite weird: sunny at times, but with the most freaky winds. We watched quite some stuff get blown in the air.
We strolled through town, had lunch at a cute little cafe that had only 5 tables and did some windowshopping. I didn't buy anything, I couldn't really find anything I liked. It was a really nice day, just being together and looking at the beautiful buildings and enjoying the atmosphere.
Here's some pics of the city and my outfit. I felt like dressing comfortable for this day. Don't pay any attention to my hair: I'm letting my layers grow out and right now it just looks horrible, I also need to colour it again.

Favourite beauty products

Ever since I was a little girl, I was completely fascinated by beauty products and make up. I watched my mother put make up on herself and from an early age, she taught me lots of stuff from which I still benefit today. From an early age, I had eczema and although it isn't that bad anymore, every now and then I have real trouble with my skin. Unfortunately that means that I cannot use every product and I tend to stick by something once it has proved to work for me. Here's some of my favourite beauty products which I use daily/weekly.

1. Dove Firming Douchegel
This douchegel promises to help firm the body, but I don't really believe in that kind of stuff. I just like the smell and texture of this product, and if it happens to firm me: that's a nice bonus :-)

2. Papaya Body Butter
This body butter is by the Body Shop and it's one of my favorites. I vary quite a lot with body lotions and butters, but this one always seems to be the one I grab the most. It's a nice fruity scent but it's not too heavy, and the texture is really rich and hydrates my very dry skin.

3. Freeman Clay Mask Avocado&Oatmeal
Since I use this mask, my skin feels so much more calm and soft. I use it about 2 times a week. A nice thing about this mask is the price/quality ratio: you get a whole tube for € 4,99 and I think that's pretty good considering the prices you pay for masks by Dr. van de Hoog and Nivea. You can get this one at De Tuinen.

4. Nivea
What dutch girl hasn't grown up with Nivea? It's an all-purpose kind of cream, which I usually use for sore spots on my skin, or on dry parts. It has the most comforting smell to it and I love putting it on my skin.

5. Clinique Continuous Rescue Antioxidant Moisturizer
I use this Clinique moisturizer underneath my daycream. Although it smells kinda weird and it's not the cheapest product, I really love it and it does the trick for me.

6. Vichy Aqualia Thermal - Light cream
After a long, long search for the perfect daycream, I finally found it last year. This cream is great: it hydrates and calms my skin. The smart thing about this product is that it comes in 2 kinds: a light and a more rich cream. I use the light version in Spring and Summer and turn to to rich cream for the colder seasons.

7. Lush Dream Cream
I came across Dream Cream when I was searching online for the perfect nightcream for dry and red skin. This is originally a hand- and bodylotion, but I use it on my face during the night. It doesn't smell really good, it has kind of an herbal scent to it but it works like magic. I wake up with smooth and calm skin. Sometimes I use it after shaving my legs, to calm them downs. A multi purpose kind of cream that I recommend to everyone!

8. Rosebud Salve - Original
By now, I guess everyone knows what Rosebud Salve is. Since I tried it 2 years ago, I haven't used any other lipcare products and I don't intend to. It smells lovely and makes your lips really smooth. When I wear a heavy eye make up, I use it on my lips for a natural looking gloss.

9. Maybeline Mineral Concealer
The make up I use may vary, but I always use this particular concealer. It has the perfect color for my skin and it blends in nice. I even use it when I don't wear foundation, just to even things out.

10. Miss Dior Cherie EDT
I've never bought a perfume twice, I loved to change a lot. I've had Noa by Cacharel, CK One, Dior Addict, YSL Elle, Armani Night, Armani She, Laura by Laura Biagotti and many more. But now I've discovered Miss Dior Cherie, the eau de toilette version and I'm totally in love. This one might stick.

I'm a bigtime fan of America's Next Topmodel, and since I have vacation now, I'm watching old seasons that I hadn't seen yet. I love it! But I've noticed that not much of the girls who were a contestant or even won the competition, later goes on to be a really succesful model. So I did a little research on 'where are they now' and came up with some interesting facts.

Adrianne Curry

She was the winner of the first ever ANTM, back in 2003. I didn't like her much, though she did photograph well. Seven years later, she has had a boobjob, appeared in Playboy and now is the host of a radio show.

Eva Pigford

Eva was the first African American girl to win ANTM, even though she was the shortest of all the contestants. Now, she's changed her name to Marcille and stars in the soap The Young and the Restless.

Naima Mora

I really loved Naima's look, she was very different and edgy. Even though she was very introvert and almost invisible, she won ANTM. Now and then she appears in campaigns, but it looks like she's not really pursuing a modelingcareer any longer.

Jaslene Gonzalez

Latina Jaslene believed very much in her capabilities as a model and in the end this payed off. She sometimes was a bit too 'ghetto' for me, but that was also why I liked her, she really had personality. After winning ANTM, she appeared on several billboards on Times Square in New York and walked the runway for Armani.

Sometime I think the pieces border on tackyness, but there is actually quite good stuff to find. I made a wishlist, and I am especially in love with the brown leather bag. It's the first day of my vacation! I'm not really going on holiday though, since we are going to NY in December. We'll just hang out two weeks at home and doing fun stuff. In honor of our free time I'm getting ready for drinks with some friends. The weather is quite nice again, and I felt like dressing comfortable today. I'm wearing my new boyfriend jeans, I love it, but it still takes some time getting used to it I guess. I keep thinking: does this make me look fat? But hey, sometimes you just got to try stuff outside your comfortzone.

I love NY

On December 11th, I am getting married. We are heavily in the preparation-phase, but there's already one thing we don't need to worry about: the honeymoon. I am a huge NY-fan, have already been fortunate enought to have visited this great city twice until now, but never with my soon-to-be-husband. So we didn't need to think about the destination for our honeymoon too long: Christmas shopping in The City That Never Sleeps!

We looked for a hotel that was both centrally located and hip, and we found that the Hudson Hotel provided everything we wanted for an accomodation for this occasion. It's apparently quite the celeb-hotspot (maybe I'll have a cocktail with Blake and Leighton :-) ) and the interior is amazing, designed by Philippe Starck. Take a look:

I am so looking forward to it! New York is one of the best places in the world, in my opinion, and I always feel so at home there, whilst at the same time I'm just overwhelmed by the greatness of the city. ...the worst blogger in the entire universe...When there's stuff going on in my offline life, it's very hard for me to cram blogging into the daily routine. But I love to write so I'm just going to make it a priority from now on, like brushing my teeth and putting on clean underwear :-)

I have been up to quite a lot the last few weeks: I went away for the weekend and visited The Hague where I did some mild shopping (mainly non-fashion and non-beauty buys, like books and stuff), I went out for drinks with friends on one too many occasion and enjoyed the blistering heat here in Holland (which unfortunately has already come to an end). But there was also bad news: my mother has breastcancer. She already had colon cancer in 2007, and now this. Apparently it's just bad luck: the one cancer doesn't have anything to do with the other. Now she has to go into surgery in 2 weeks and then we have to wait for another week for the results and whether she has to have chemotherapy. She had that back in 2007 and that was no picknick. She is very affraid to lose her hair, especially since I'm getting married in Decmeber, and she ofcourse wants to look nice.
So heavy stuff.

But since this is not a personal blog, onto other things more fashion-related. Lately I've gotten a new obsession: Etsy.com. For those of you who don't know this great phenomenon yet: this is a huge website where you can buy and sell all things handmade by people. You can start your own store there and sell stuff you made. It's a great place to look for original pieces of jewelry and accesories, and to know that someone made it with lots of love to me makes it all the more special. You can find something in any price range, and since recently they show you the prices in the currency of your country, quite handy. Some of my favorite things on Etsy.com:

I'm always looking for new blogs to add to my daily-list. When I came across the name Cupcakes and Cashmere, I got the feeling that I would like the blog. And yes, it is fabulous. It is owned by 25-year old Emily from LA, who has an incredible sense of style. Her outfits are very cool and the stuff she writes about is always interesting. I'm a sucker for lists. To-do-lists, lists of favorites, even grocery-lists: I love making them. They are not only quite handy but also make me want to strive for things, even if it's just little things, or look back on certain aspects of my life.
So it shouldn't come as a surprise that I got immediately psyched by Nenz who put up this list on her blog and invited people to make their own. So, here it goes!

1. Favorite hobby?

I guess my favorite thing to do in my spare time would be the internet: blogging, reading other people's blogs, catching up on the news: I couldn't live without internet anymore.

2. Favorite tv show?

I absolutely adore Sex and the City, my alltime favorite. It is one of the reasons I'm totally fascinated by New York. But since SATC no longer runs, I'm currently obsessed by trash-tv like The Hills and The City. I know: shame on me...

3. Favorite restaurant food?

It's almost impossible to pick a favorite food, since I'm quite the food-addict, but if I have to choose one, it would be Mexican. I love the flavours, the colors, the ingredients, the atmosphere. You can take me out to the Mexican anytime!

4. Favorite thing to shop for?

Clothes! But I can also get really happy from buying flowers or cleaning supplies. I know, weird :-)

5. Favorite animal?

Cats. I have a cat myself called Tijger, and if it was up to me (unfortunately it isn't) I would have many more.

6. Favorite song?

Tough one...I think I would have to say Blackbird by the Beatles. It gives me chills every time I hear it. A true classic.

7. Favorite word?

Jozef. I use this word for all kinds of occasions: to utter my amazement, to curse at a situation, to express my happiness. I don't know where I got it, it's a mystery.

8. Recent favorite youtube video?

Friends bloopers! Search for bloopers on youtube and you'll be entertained all day long.

9. Favorite movie?

It would have to be Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain, a great French movie, full of color, magic and fun. I watch it over and over again. Also, the soundtrack is amazing.

10. Favorite childhood memory?
Unfortunately, I have yet to scan all my childhood pictures, so no pic with this one.
But growing up, I didn't have the picture perfect childhood, so it's not all that easy to find a good memory. But I do have fond memories of the holidays with my mom, stepdad and sister in Austria, where we would take long walks in the mountains and I would build dams in the streams we'd come across. Whenever I think back to those times, I get very calm and happy.

New obsession

Sorry guys, for another lack of updates..I'm not in such a great place right now: having a really hard time at work, since I don't get along with my collegues. I'm looking for another job but it's hard these days.
Anyway, moving on.
I've gotten myself a new obsession: moodboards. I had heard of em before but it was the post on one of my favorite blogs Nenz that really got me going. I'm getting married in December and whilst looking online for inspiration for the styling of the event, I stumbled upon quite a few moodboards. I love to look at them and get inspired by what other people have made. A particularly fun activity when you love looking at beautiful objects, patterns and colors. With summer not even barely here, it's already time to start looking for some outfits for autumn and winter. I was very happy to receive the H&M catalog a week ago, since it keeps being my favorite store. I decided to pre-order some stuff, since I probably won't be receiving it before August, and by then, I hope my money-issues will have magicly dissapeared...

I didn't even really notice it at first, but when I looked at all the stuff I had chosen, I noticed it is all very classic and a bit goody-goody even. But hey, I guess I want to look like a lady come Fall...

Headband Heaven

When I was a little girl, I loved wearing headbands. Back then, they were all kinds of colours, and actually not very exciting, no frills or nothing. At a certain age, I just stopped wearing them, because I felt they made me look younger than I really was.
But over the last few months, I've fallen back in love with headbands all over again. I'm more confident now and love to make a statement with a bold hair-accesory. Sorry for my long absence. I've had some personal issues that caused me to have no writing-inspiration at all. I did virtually no shopping, and had no interesting outfits to show, so I thought: why bother.
But I love this blog too much to completely abondon it, so even though I'm still not out of the woods with the issues yet, I've decided to start blogging again. Hope you can understand.

I'm trying to put up more pics of my outfits lately, since those are the thing I enjoy the most in reading other people's blogs. This is what I'm wearing today, my new leather jacket from H&M arrived and I'm totally in love with it..I'm still on the hunt for some new shoes, since I'm wearing these boots all the time and I'm getting sick of them :-) I'm a very difficult shoe-shopper: pumps are usually not very practical (heels aren't very comfy plus: you can't wear socks in them, lol) but boots aren't nearly as elegant and ladylike as pumps are. Usually anyway.

I stumbled across this red dress yesterday in the local H&M and immediately fell in love with it. It's the perfect flirty summerdress, and it costs only 9,95 Euro! My brother-in-law is getting married the end of May so I hope the weather will be nice enough to wear this dress. Can't wait for the sunshine!

Ever since I stumbled across Fashionology.nl via someone else's blog, I've been in love with the jewelry being selled on this website. Dutch designer Rachel Duister makes the most beautiful silver earrings, necklaces and bracelets that have an edgy side to them. Her stuff is also very reasonable priced, so I'm sure she's going to be an even bigger hit than she already is. I had been lusting over this particular bracelet for ages now and decided to purchase it today. Hope to see it soon in the mail!

I've been a fan of Gwen Stefani since I first heard 'Just A Girl' on the radio when I was a teenager. I went to all of their concerts and was always completely in awe when I saw Gwen in real life. She is such a personality, nice and down to earth, but glamorous at the same time. I thought it was natural that she would go into designing herself one day, and even though most of her clothes and shoes usually are a bit too outrageous for me to wear personally, I love looking at her collections.
A few days ago, during NY Fashion Week, the fall collection for 2010 of L.A.M.B. was presented. The whole collection is built around these themes: military, boudoir, vintage, fifties and sexy. Nothing too shocking and new for Gwen, but hey, never change a winning team, right? Most of the outfits look really edgy and actually quite comfortable.

New York is my favorite city in the world, I've been fortunate enough to have already been there twice in my life so far, and in December I'll be going there again on my honeymoon. It's such a exciting place to be, vibrant and full of energy. I think the way most New Yorkers dress is great, the outfits are very well put together and usually has a little bit of edge to it, and I like that very much. One of my favorite things to do is look at New York streetstyle. The people in the picture are usually way more skinny than I am and the outfits they're wearing aren't always what I would wear myself, but I just look at it for inspiration. The collection consists of pretty standard stuff like nailpolish, lipstick, eyeshadows, eyeliners and rouge, but it also features a professionel eyeshadow applicator. I'm quite sceptic about 'cheap' brushes but I might give this a try, since I think Catrice usually brings good quality of products. The brush is made from ponyhair and on the other end there's a type of sponge you can use to smudge lines.
Pastel Delight will be available in stores in March 2010.

As promised, here some outfit pics of me from the last few days. The one with the black dress is kinda boring, but I wore that today to a job interview where I had no idea what kind of wear was expected of me, so I chose the lbd :-) I now see that it seems like I have a huge belly in this thing, but its not in real life. Just so you know :-)
With it, my new Jimmy Choo-bag, which I had been hunting on for weeks now. It was in the sale of the H&M online shop but I still found it too pricey. What can I say, I just love a good bargain. So eventually I got it on Marktplaats for like a quarter of the original price. Wehee! Me happy.
The other outfit is from last Sunday. I really like to wear dresses, I'm a typical girly girl I guess.
Btw, if someone has some good pointers for me how I can make good outfit-pictures: please let me know, cause right now my pics kind of suck :-)

I've been really busy the pas few days, since my Mom was here for the weekend and we did all kinds of things, like shopping for a verrrry special dress (I'm getting married in December), having lots of tea and eating tapas, so I didn't get to blog much. ...is the devil! I couldn't contain myself and bought some stuff (again) in the Sale on H&M Online. It's cool that I start work very early in the morning: everything is restocked then :-)

I'm particulary excited about the headband, since I've been wanting it for a while, but never got my hands on the black version. I don't really know if I'll keep the skirt, since I've never worn these kinds of short skirts before. I don't know if they will flatter my figure, since I have large hips and my butt isn't the smallest you've ever seen :-) But lately I tend to wander off of my usual dressing style and try new stuff. I love to hear what you guys think of this actually: what you should a plussize person (me, for instance, I'm a 42/M top and 44/46 down) definately wear or not wear? Hope to see some reactions, thanx!

The Top 10 Movies You Should Have Seen At Least Once..

This is mainly a fashion- and beautyblog, but today I thought I'd do something different. I'm a major film-buff, so here's my list of movies which I think everyone should have seen at least once. They're not in order, they're all equally fabulous :-)

Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain
Why should you see it It is one of the most magical movies you will ever see: the story, the images, the music...It meant a breakthrough in the career of Audreay Tautou (recently she played Coco Chanel in the movie about the life of this great woman), and when you see it, you understand why.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Why should you see it The store of LOTR is simply epic, and contains everything you want to see in a movie: action, romance, sadness, laughter, excitement. The images are stunning, the music is amazing and there's some good acting. I'm a total Aragorn-fan, I don't even mind when he sings...:-)

The Shining
Why should you see it For any horror or thriller fanatic, this movie is simply a must imo. Jack Nicholson plays a creepy writer who takes on a job as winter-janitor in an abandoned hotel. He brings along his wife and son, and slowly goes mad, with all kinds of scary results.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Why should you see it A great lovestory, a great allstar cast (including Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Elijah Wood and Kirsten Dunst) and a fabulous soundtrack. You may want to see it more than 1 time, since the story can get a bit complicated at times.

Born On The Fourth Of July
Why should you see it If you want to know more about the war in Vietnam and what it did to people, this movie's the one to watch. Tom Cruise plays a veteran who lost the abilty to walk in the war and struggles with his war memories once he's back home. Very impressive.

Forrest Gump
Why should you see it This might come of as a cheesy, very American movie, but if you manage to look through that, you will see a very moving story, with some great laughs. The story spans a few decades, and gives a good view on American history. The soundtrack is great too.

Trainspotting
Why should you see it Okay, it's kinda gross at times, but the story is great. Renton, the main character played by Ewan McGregor, is a drugaddict from Edinburgh, who tries to get clean and get out of the drugscene. The movie really shows the problems of modern day youth and the horrors of drugaddiction. And there's quite some laughs in the movie too, if you can believe it :-)

Love Actually
Why should you see it I love this movie! All these stories about love, falling in love, ending love, impossible love..Love, love, love! An incredible cast, including Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Alan Rickman, Laura Linney and Emma Thompson make you laugh and cry. It's a Christmas-movie but I watch it all year round ;-)

Twelve Monkeys
Why should you see it An unknown virus has killed nearly the whole population on earth and by the year 2035, only 1% has survived this disease. They are living underground and above, the animals rule again, as they once did. Bruce Willis gets sent back in time to fix things. It's a great story, with unexpected plotlines and an amazing cast, including a very wacky Brad Pitt. This movie can also get complicated at times, but it's worth it!

House Of Flying Daggers
Why should you see it This Chinese movie is a feast to look at: the bright colors pop out of the screen. It's the story of an impossible love: Mei and Jin love eachother, but can't be together since they're on opposite sides of a dispute. The martial arts in the movie are amazing, as well as the visual effects. Don't be put off by the Chinese, you get used to it very fast. And ofcourse, there's subtitles :-)

I'm usually a bit conscious of wearing skirts this short, since I don't think they flatter my body the right way, but sometimes I like a garment so much, I don't really care :-)

For me, one of the biggest reasons I visit fashionblogs, is seeing outfits. I love getting inspired by what other people wear and have admiration for those that really know how to put together the perfect outfit. As for me, I don't pretend to be the best or daring or creative dresser in the world, but I do love clothes, shoes and jewelry, so I do the best I can. Actress Jessica Szohr is best known for her role as Vanessa Abrams in Gossip Girl. I like most of her outfits on the show, but I also love the way she dresses in real life. I think she has a fun style, she doesn't take herself too serious. Her outfits are very casual and feminine at the same time. I love how natural she looks, and she has a gorgeous smile. I went shopping yesterday with 2 friends. Our primal objective: Primark in Rotterdam. It took us an hour to get there, but man, was it worth it! If you've never been there before, you should really take a look sometime. Everything is incredibly cheap, and there's so much stuff that you can easily spend multiple hours there, and see new stuff every time you do another round through the store. I came out with three full bags...As soon as I have the time, I'll make some pics to show the haul :-)

I'm really into the boots and the studded dress, it was love at first sight with those items. I had been wanting the quilted bag for a while so I'm especially psyched that I got my hands on these, since they sold like crazy yesterday. I also bought some 'boring' stuff like new black tights, socks, a black and white tee, and other stuff not worthy of being photographed :-)

Last Saturday, the annual SAG Awards show took place in Hollywood. The Screen Actors Guild Awards are considered to be a good prognosis for that major awardsshow in March: the Oscars. As usual, there were lots of lovely ladies strutting down the red carpet. White dresses, nude lips, beaded details: there were quite some trends to be spotted. Some of my favorites!

Christina Applegate wore a light blue silk gown by Roberto Cavalli and styled it up with some Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. She's come a long way since her Kelly-days on Married with Children. I think this dress is classic and elegant, and her makeup and hair matches it perfectly.

Actress Lea Michele, known for her role on tvshow Glee, took home an award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. She really stood out in her green Catherine Malandrino dress, with ruffles and ruches. I really love the simplicity of this look: she doesn't wear a lot of jewelry. Also, her makeup is amazing, it's so natural looking.

Latin beauty Penelope Cruz wore a figure hugging black velvet dress with beaded details all over, by L'Wren Scott. It's not a very daring look, but in my opinion Penelope can do no wrong :-) She doesn't need a lot to be beautiful. I love those black peeptoes!

Ofcourse there's always some people who didn't really pay attention to what their stylist brought for them :-) Drew Barrymore must have had her eyes closed when dressing, and having her hair done: what's with the big hair lately?!

I'm not really into Nicole Kidman's dress either, nor do I like her makeup. It all feels a bit dated, and too casual for an awardshow.

I'm already looking forward to the Oscars!

The color of this blush really reminds me the NYX roughe creme blush in Hot Pink, one of my favorite blushes ever. Its a strong pink color which will give your cheeks that fresh spring glow. Only available in this color.

The Cute As Hell eyeshadows come in 4 different shades: Naughty But Nice (yellow), Bad Girl (orange), Not Just Cute (pink) and Date Me!(purple) I don't really know if I would wear the yellow shade, but maybe there are some daredevils out there that know how to create an unique look with this color..

This duo highlighter pen in two different shades enables you to make your eyes look really bright and fresh. It has two colors: lilac and pink. I think these colors could really 'open up' your eye if applied right. Like it!

I think it's a nice line but nothing too spectacular. I will however check out the blush and highlighter pen, since they look pretty good. The prices of the products are very budget-proof: they range from € 0,95 to € 2,25!

I couldn't contain myself: it's Friday night, I'm bored and I ended up on the H&M webshop (again I might add)...I fell in love with the ankleboots months ago, but I didn't really need new shoes then, and I was low on cash, so I had to pass. But now they're in sale, so I thought I'd give myself a treat :-)
As for the jeans: you could never have too much of those, and these look like they have a nice fit. And the tops were instant love: I'm a sucker for anything that has applications on the shoulders...The purple scarf is a tubescarf, I love those, and you can never have too much of these.

Annie Leibovitz for Louis Vuitton

I'm a big fan of the work of photographer Annie Leibovitz. She started her career at Rolling Stone Magazine and has been working for Vanity Fair since 1983. She made countless famous photo's, like the one of a naked John Lennon, cuddling his wife Yoko on the day he was shot and the portrait of actress Bette Midler in a bed of roses. For Disney she made the series Disney Dream Portraits, in which a number of famous actors, actresses and athletes like Scarlet Johansson, Jennifer Lopez and David Beckham play a Disney-character. If you've never seen these before, do check em on Google, they're amazing.

Now Annie is standing in front of the camera instead of behind it! Louis Vuitton asked her to pose for the Spring collection 2010. She agreed to do it, on one condition: she wanted Mikhail Baryshnikov to be in the pictures with her. Mikhail Baryshnikov is most known by a wide audience for his role of Aleksandr Petrovsky, Carrie's lover in Sex And The City. Remember: 'You are comic'? :-)
Unfortunately this picture isn't of the best quality, but you get an idea of what the campaign will look like. Can't wait to see more!
